Mike Feinberg

Mike, a financial planner, reached the big-money stages by way of this fastest-finger question:

QQ13. Put the following television dogs in the order of their debut, from the earliest to the most recent.
A. Scrappie-Doo B. Lassie
C. Taco Bell chihuahua D. Eddie from Frasier
Correct Order (drag the mouse over the letters): C-D-A-B
Mike's winning time: 3.70
Competitors: 6/10

We came close the last two times, let's see if we can't go all the way!

For $100:
1. In the film 'Forrest Gump,' what does Forrest's mother say life is like?

A. A night at the bus stopB. A box of chocolates
C. A new dishwasherD. A cross-country race

Mike chooses B...

Reege: "Box of chocolates. What a great line. You're absolutely-- Final answer??"
John: "Yes it is!"
Reege: "Oh, my gosh!"
John: "It is now!"
Reege: "Yes, it is now!" (Reege breaks up laughing) "Oh, you're gonna get me in trouble! No, it was your answer, wasn't it?"
John: "Yes."
Reege: "Yeah, of course. A hundred bucks, I'll give it to you myself! You got it!"

For $200:
2. Nursery rhyme character Humpty Dumpty is famous for falling off what?

A. His bicycleB. The edge of the earth
C. A wallD. The wagon

Boy, I smelled that D answer from a mile away...

Mike picks C...

YES, THAT'S HIS FINAL ANSWER.

Correct! $200.

For $300:
3. According to the old proverb, what will the mice do 'when the cat's away'?

A. CryB. Sleep
C. PlayD. Watch TV
Mike goes with C again...

It's his final answer again.

And he's right again! $300.

For $500:
4. Which of these professions is also a famous brand of underwear?

A. AstronautB. Jockey
C. PlumberD. Cable Guy
Mike chooses B...

And that's his final answer.

He's got it! $500.

For a guaranteed $1000:
5. What car was named after famed automaker Henry Ford's only son?

A. EdselB. Thunderbird
C. Model AD. Mustang

Mike says it's A...

And confirms that's his final answer.

Mike, you won't drive away with any less than $1000!

For $2000:
6. Which of the following quantifies sheets of paper?

A. ReamB. Quiver
C. BaleD. Rod

Mike picks A...

Which is his final answer.

Correct for $2000!

For $4000:
7. What image is pictured on the current Canadian national flag?

A. Grizzly bear B. Mountain
C. Union Jack D. Maple leaf

Mike's a hockey fan, which makes this one a gimme. He selects D...

And that's his final answer, hoser.

Nailed it! $4000!

For $8000:
8. Which of the following is not a type of mushroom?

A. MorelB. Shiitake
C. EndiveD. Portobello

Not much of a mushroom fan, he'll whip out a Lifeline and narrow it down with the 50:50.

A. MorelOUT

C. EndiveOUT

And like it does so often, the 50:50 leaves the two answers our contestant is pondering.

Needing more help, he'll survey the constantly-hyphenated audience.

A. Morel - 16%OUT

C. Endive - 84%OUT

It's quite a majority, but it's not Mike's first instinct.

Still 84% is quite a big chunk of the audience, even for just two answers. He'll trust the audience and pick C...

For his final answer.

I knew this one thanks to my French class.

Because the French word for lettuce is...

Endive! Mike wins $8000!

END SHOW 6 -- BEGIN SHOW 7

After the show, Mike had a little trouble falling asleep, so to kill time he decided to play the online game at abc.com. How'd he do? Well, let's just say he's glad the questions he faced there aren't coming up now.

For $16,000:
9. In biology, the 'double-helix' descrives the specific structure of what substance?

A. DNAB. Blood
C. RNAD. Amniotic fluid

We just saw someone keep all three Lifelines intact until the $250,000 question.

Mike's going to have to burn his last one up right now. He's going to call his stepfather Robert. Let's cut right to the chase, after the question and choices:

    Robert: "DNA, and I'm sure."
    Mike: "You're absolutely sure."
    Robert: "Yes."
Mike: "This is from medical school."
Robert: "This is from medical school."
Mike: "OK. I appreciate your help. Thank you." (Hang up with 7 seconds left)

Finally we found a correspondent who didn't have to take a guess.

Robert's certainty equals Mike's certainty. He goes with A...

And confirms that's his final answer.

And it's the right answer! $16,000!

LOOGAROO LAMENTS: I know you're tired of me blabbing about WWTBAM history, but let me just say that Mike is the fastest player to use up all three Lifelines in the November run, and second only to Hillary Daw (who had squan- er... used them all by the $8000 question) in the entire show. If the last $250,000 question stopped someone with all three Lifelines available, Mike's chances at the million look bleak.

For a guaranteed $32,000:
10. Shannon Faulkner was the first female cadet admitted to what military school?

A. The CitadelB. The Air Force Academy
C. West PointD. Annapolis

Mike remembers the news stories about this. Slowly, he eliminates D, B, and finally C. All that's left now is the Citadel.

Mike's going with A...

Which is final answer.

An important question, especially with no Lifelines left.

Good thing he got it right! Mike wins $32,000!!

For $64,000:
11. The Eagles were once the backup band for what singer?

A. Bonnie RaittB. Linda Ronstadt
C. Emmylou HarrisD. Crystal Gayle

Mike was expecting to see an Eagle up there, but they're all female.

Reege reminds Mike that this question is a freebie, so a guess would cost him nothing.

Which is what this will be - a guess.

It'll be an educated guess, though - Mike eliminates A, figuring Bonnie Raitt came up after the Eagles.

So with three logical choices left, Mike settles on B...

And reluctantly says that's his final answer.

I wonder if a Lifeline would've helped.

Maybe he had a friend who's a music buff...

Or maybe the audience could've told him...

That it's Linda Ronstadt!!
Mike wins SIXTY-FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!

For $125,000, or ONE EIGHTH of a MILLION DOLLARS:
12. What animal is represented on a caduceus?

A. SnakeB. Bear
C. CatD. Horse

Mike has as much idea to this question as he does to what he'd do with a reduced prize of $32K, so he's going to stop.
Mike Feinberg calls it quits with $64,000.

Given a guess, he'd have tried A...

And he would've had an eighth of a mill. A. Snake was correct.

LOOGAROO LAMENTS: Mike should've known this one. First, he mentioned that he played the online WWTBAM game at abc.com the night before, and one of the questions involves the caduceus. Second, his Phone-a-Friend correspondent was a medical student, and the caduceus is the symbol of medicine!! (That's the staff with the wings and the snake wrapped around it.) I just can't believe that Mike could've been blind to both those hints.

WINNINGS TO DATE: $746,000
