Toby eliminates A, since that was Washington's home, and D, which was Jefferson's. He has a hunch it's B, but to be sure, he's going to use his Phone-a-Friend and call Chris, his friend. This is the transcript after the formalities:
Chris: "OK, the grounds of the vice president?" Toby: "Yes. Where does he live?" Chris: "I'm thinking Monticello, but-" Toby: "No, that's Jefferson's house." Chris: "OK... The Naval Observatory, and what was the other one?" Toby: "The White House." (Burp burp)

Toby stands just 1 question away from tying for the biggest winner in November, 2 away from passing him, and 3 away from receiving a seven-digit check. We start the Thursday show off in grand style:

Toby begins to contemplate where the states appear on a road map. After drawing the states in front of him, he deduces that Utah is too far south. Toby chooses C... And that will be his final answer. Maybe if Toby used the 50:50... He might have gotten the right answer. But instead, he decided to save it for later use. AND IT'S A GOOD THING HE DID!!! Toby wins TWO HUNDRED FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!!!

I'll tell you what I thought when I saw this question: I was thinking: "My God, this is the half-million dollar question?? Anyone with kids would know this one!!" But Toby just doesn't recognize the characters, so he'll use his 50:50.

Regis advises Toby to take his time before making any decision. Toby does indeed have a son... But he's far too young to be interested in Pokémon. Toby: "God, my nephew back in Texas is having a cow right now..." Toby would like to try for the million... But he just doesn't know the answer to the question, so he's going to resign. Toby Moore stops the game with $250,000. The answer? It was B. Frodo. LOOGAROO LAMENTS:In the case of Odd-One-Out questions, see if you can recognize one of the choices from an outside source. If you can, it's probably the right answer. Frodo was a character from The Hobbit, as Regis explained in the post-mortem. If Toby could've figured that out, chances are good he'd be the second person to see the million-dollar question. As for myself, if I were in that hot seat, I'd be screaming like a madman. I'd have gotten through all 14 questions with only one Lifeline - the Audience Lifeline - spent. And once I saw the Pokémon question, I'd be going insane. For two months, my place of work was doing a promotion about Pokémon, and since then upon request I could probably spout off the names of 30 characters, and I might even get up to 75 if I had some time. Believe me, it's not something I'm proud of.
