| C. 9 | D. 44
| John's first two guesses were 44 and 15. Since 15 isn't a possibility, and since he's seen a number of clips of Hank wearing it, he'll choose 44... Which is his final answer. His luck paid off - it's 44! LOOGAROO LAMENTS: I would've had to Ask the Audience. Although I knew it couldn't be 9; that's Dan Majerle's number. : ) |

| C. Three | D. Two
| John mulls it over. He knows that Gerald Ford was not elected, so he doesn't count. The rest of the decade, however, is a bit of a blur. Since most of the audience is older than him, he's asking them to help him out. A. None - 2% | B. One - 23% | ![]() ![]() ![]() C. Three - 16% | D. Two - 59%
| Even though more than half the audience favors D, he still has his doubts. John: "I wish I was alive at the time."
John wants to make sure he leaves with at least $32K, so he's going to whip out his 50:50, although he's uncertain how much help it will be. OUT | OUT | ![]() ![]() ![]() C. Three | D. Two
| As John was afraid of, it doesn't help him. So, he reluctantly uses his Phone-a-Friend to call his Aunt Carol. Here's the transcript, after the question and choices:
John: "...and Reagan, right, in '79..." Carol: "Right." John: "Was Ford elected?" Carol: "No." John: "He was never elected." Carol: "No." John: "And Nixon was elected..." Carol: "I'm gonna stick with Two, John." John: "OK, thank you. Are you sure?" Carol: "I'm not positive, but fairly certain..." (Time's up) ![]() ![]() ![]() With all three Lifelines gone, he's still having a difficult time. Regis tells John not to rush, since $31,000 is hanging in the balance. Reege: "You think it's tough on you, Desiree [his girlfriend] is going crazy up there." But John finally decides to go for it. He selects D... He pauses, and declares that's his final answer.
Regis pauses... And replies... "What was the problem, it was Two!"
![]() LOOGAROO LAMENTS: This was a horribly written question. First of all, what constitutes "elected"? Nixon was originally elected in '68, so does his re-election count? Or does it have to be a new president elected? Second, when does the 70's start, and when does it end? Technically, It goes from '71-'80, NOT '70-'79 (which is why the 21st century actually begins in the year 2001, NOT 2000), so Reagan should be counted. It could be either 2 or 3, depending on those two variables. I would have guessed two, though, and I'd have appealed had it have been three. |
11. Which of these technology companies is not currently traded on the New York Stock Exchange? | ![]() ![]() ![]() A. Microsoft | B. America Online
| C. Lucent | D. Compaq
| This is a no-risk situation for John, which is just as well because this is going to be a guess. He mentions that he was going to start investing next week, when he starts school. He knows that Lucent Technologies is the most recent company of the bunch, and figures perhaps it's being traded on Nasdaq. But, he also has a feeling about AOL. He can only pick one, though, so he'll go with C... And that's his final answer.
Well, it turns out neither of his picks were right. The correct answer was A. Microsoft.
LOOGAROO LAMENTS: I didn't know this one, either. This is a toughie unless you're into the Business section of the paper. Then again, considering the bad writing of the last question which caused him to burn all of his Lifelines, I hate to think what might have happened if he had used any of them here. |
