Jim Baird

Jim is an accountant, who made it to the hot seat by answering the following question:

QQ3. Moving clockwise on a Monopoly board from 'Go,' put the following railroads in the order they appear.
A. Pennsylvania B. Short Line
C. B & O D. Reading
Correct Order (drag the mouse over the letters): D-A-B-C
Jim's winning time: 2.80
Competitors: 2/8

Jim's time of 2.80 seconds is a worldwide WWTBAM record! Let's see if he's as smart as he is fast.

For $100:
1. Completed in 1889, the Eiffel Tower is found in which country?

A. United StatesB. France
C. MexicoD. Zimbabwe

Jim knows a gimme when he sees one. He selects B...

And that's definitely his final answer.

And he's pocketed his first $100!

For $200:
2. Which of these words refers to the stock market when prices are falling?

A. SnakeB. Bear
C. TigerD. Yak

Having heard his share of Bulls and Bears, Jim goes with B...

For his final answer.

It's Da Bear! $200.

For $300:
3. What does the 'e' stand for in 'e-mail'?

A. EugeneB. Electron
C. ExactD. Electronic

Jim picks D...

And confirms that's his final answer.

And he's e-won $300!

For $500:
4. The name of what coin also prefers to a size of pancake?

A. Half-pennyB. Indian nickel
C. QuarterD. Silver Dollar

Jim's an accountant, but he quips that he should be a chef. Having not eaten pancakes in a while, he's going to ask the ever-omniscient audience.

A. Half-penny - 3%B. Indian nickel - 0%

C. Quarter - 1%D. Silver dollar - 96%

Get your riot gear ready if Jim dissents.

But he's smart, and he goes with the audience. Jim chooses D...

Which is his final answer.

And the audience is 2 for 2! $500.

LOOGAROO LAMENTS: Hasn't this guy been to IHOP before??

For a guaranteed $1000:
5. During the Cold War, what were the American school children instructed to do during a nuclear attack?

A. Bop and weaveB. Sit and spin
C. Duck and coverD. Stand and deliver

All together now, let's find the two gag answers.

Jim is going with C...

Yes, that's his final answer.

And he's just pocketed a guaranteed grand!

For $2000:
6. In the Harold Gray comic strip 'Little Orphan Annie', what is the name of the title character's dog?

A. SandyB. Eddie
C. ShaggyD. Snoopy

Fortunately, Jim saw the airing of Annie on ABC just before the show started.

Reege: "Thanks for the plug, we appreciate it."

Jim picks A...

And that's his final answer.

And he's right for $2000!

For $4000:
7. How many teaspoons are in a tablespoon?

A. Two B. Four
C. Three and a half D. Three

Another cooking question, and again Jim is struggling.

Reege: "Your wife would know this, I'm sure."

But Jim's wife is in the audience, so he can't get her help.

Jim is going to go for it and take A...

Which is his final answer.

Reege anticipated the right answer. "A is your final answer, and you're...

wrong."
D. Three was the correct response.
So Jim Baird has his total sliced in half, and he returns to $1000.

LOOGAROO LAMENTS: Two things to note here. First, Reege's remark when the question came up was inappropriate. The show is already having problems proving it's not a "sexist" show, and Regis' little quip didn't help. Second, the question wasn't all that tough. I could have gotten this far without a lifeline. I guess Jim is going to want to learn how to cook: two home-ec questions shot him down.

WINNINGS TO DATE: $34,000
