OUTB. Virginia

C. South CarolinaOUT

He knows it's a freebie, and he doesn't want to waste his last Lifeline, so he'll go for it and choose C...

For his final answer.

He lives in the south, so he should know...

That the first state to secede was...

South Carolina!
Andres wins SIXTY-FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!

LOOGAROO LAMENTS: I'd have bombed on this question; I thought for sure it was Alabama. I was also quite surprised that Virginia made it past the 50:50.

For $125,000, or ONE EIGHTH of a MILLION DOLLARS:
12. Gregor Johann Mendel was best known for his discoveries in what branch of science?

A. GeneticsB. Geology

That the father of the field was...

A man by the name of...

GREGOR MENDEL!!
Andres wins ONE HUNDRED TWENTY-FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!!

Our last contestant went for the quarter-million, and busted. Will Andres do the same? Or will he get the next question right? Or will he even go for the next question? To find out, just scroll down.

For $250,000, or ONE QUARTER of a MILLION DOLLARS:
13. Who was the first host of 'Saturday Night Live'?

A. Billy CrystalB. George Carlin
C. Steve MartinD. Paul Simon

Andres doesn't even pretend to know the answer. He's going to use his final Lifeline and call his friend Ben, or as Andres calls him, "Benny Louie." Here's the transcript after the formalities:

    Andres: "You have any idea?"
Ben: "Um... Hmm, George Car- say 'em again? Can you say 'em again?"
Andres: "Billy Crystal, George Carlin, Steve Martin, and Paul Simon."
Ben: "George Carlin, Billy Crystal, Steve Martin..."
    Andres: "You got 7 seconds."
    Ben: "...and Paul Simon."
    Andres: "Yeah."
    Ben: "God... Uh..."
    Andres: "Not a clue?"
Ben: "I don't know." (Burp burp)

He didn't even have time to take a guess.

Needless to say, he wasn't sure going into the phone call, and he isn't any more sure coming out of it. So, he's going to do the smart thing and call it quits.
Andres Rivera passes on the 13th question and stops with $125,000.

With a free guess, he takes a shot on C...

And that shot would've been an airball. B. George Carlin was right.

LOOGAROO LAMENTS: Another tough one. The 13th question seems to constantly throw curveballs, asking questions that really can't be researched ahead of time. It's just one of those "you have to be there" kinda questions. Nevertheless, I will say that his use of Lifelines was pretty darn good - even though he squandered one on the lower tier.

WINNINGS TO DATE: $983,000
